$20 Razor Refurbishing

I will unpin your razor, thoroughly clean and buff your blade and scales, and repin the razor.  Before repining, I will clean the blade of all active rust and finish with metal polish.  But, you should not expect a highly mirrored finish, which would constitute a full blade restoration.

If your scales are damaged (i.e. cracked/broken), and cannot be unpinned and cleaned without further damage, we will politely suggest a rescale as the value of the scales are not worth the cost to refurbish.

Razor refurbishing costs $20, including return postage.  It does not include honing, which is listed below.

$30+ Scales Replacement

I can get acrylic scales material in several solid colors and also transparent colors including: black, white, ivory, red, green, dark blue, light blue, orange, violet, and many more.  Many species of hardwoods can also be ordered including maple (birds-eye and curly), zebrawood, bocote, yellowheart, wenge, tornillo, and many more.  Highly priced blanks of exotic woods will add to the cost of the rescale slightly.

Prices may vary for razors with over-sized pivot holes that you would like sleeved and 3-pin designed razors.

Rescaling costs include postage, and almost always cost under $40.  Unless arranged, scales replacement does not include extensive refurbishing or repair of the blade.  As with refurbishing, scales replacement does not include razor honing.

$10 Razor Honing

Hollow ground straight razors will be honed to shave readiness by Larry for $10 when combined with any of the above Mason Razorworks services.  Near wedges and wedge razors cost a few dollars more.

$20 Double Edge Razor Clean & Polish

Double edge razors will be cleaned and polished for $20.  No repair of broken parts or parts replacement included.

Postage

All prices above include postage.  Razors will be mailed first class, and delivery confirmation information will be sent to you.  All losses will be borne by the buyer unless alternate arrangements are made.

Work Delivery

Razor refurbishing and rescaling is done by me, and will be completed in under seven (7) days unless you are told otherwise. In fact, often the work is completed in 2 or 3 days.  Razors to be honed will be mailed to Larry, who will mail the finished razor to you.

You will be informed of the status of your razor during all stages of work.

I look forward to working with you!

Mike Mason

-"Mike, what can I say? Love them both but that big boy is my new favorite and I haven't even used it yet. Great idea keeping the old washers, a real nice touch. Meant to mention I find your honing is great, shaved with the orange one today and it sings. Happy to give recommendations to anyone about your work and integrity."

-"You can't beat the price of this restore :) In looking at the prices posted on your site (Larry) for rebuild/refurbish, I would say that the combined cost of refurb, replacing scales and honing is well worth it. Based on estimates I have had from other folks who do restores, your prices are the best around."

-"I might be biased on this one since as far as I know, I was the only customer you had to follow up with for an overhaul but between you and Mike, I don't think I ever went more than a few hours without getting a response back regarding some miscellaneous question."

-"Everything with the razor came out perfectly. I wasn't really expecting either of you gentlemen to make a mistake, but with any venture, when you're just starting out, I think it is normal to maybe make a mistake here and there.  In looking at the razor, I see no mistakes. The wedge fits quite nicely, I love the feel of the scales and the balance is perfect. Another thing I am very happy about is the rounding of the tip. That razor is a little older and my personal favorite, so to me, it's one-of-a-kind. Naturally, when you send that type of blade somewhere for work, you can't undo something like rounding the point when the blade itself is so small already, but it was done perfectly and makes for a very comfortable shave.  For honing, well both razors are great and that's why I send them to Larry for honing. Best shaves, hands down."

-"One thing I REALLY liked was knowing when the razor was received by Mike, finished at Mike's pitstop, sent to Larry, received by Larry, etc. It's a small thing, but having an idea of what the state of your restore is provides a good feeling. I was also really pleased to see the progress pictures from Mike - it's just cool to see it being worked on :)
I am very impressed with the overall build/feel of the razor, and am looking forward to my next shave."

About the Product

I buy my rod stock from Jantz Supply http://www.knifemaking.com/default.asp and washers from Microfasteners http://www.microfasteners.com/

Scale material depends on what you want to use (wood, acrylic, G10, horn, etc.) Some good suppliers are Woodcraft, Bell Forest Products, Delvies Plastics, and MaseCraft Supply.
